Biography

Aleksa Jelic was born in Belgrade into a family of artists that offered him a creative environment and upbringing. Owing to their support and stimulation to develop his artistic skills, Aleksa began playing violin before he turned eight. Upon completion of the primary music school viola came into the focus of his musical education.

Love and inclination towards dance as an additional stage expression is a part of his family legacy as well.

Having completed music school and following years of active ballet dancing, the combination of the two artistic expressions is temporarily dominated by the stage movement.

At the age of fourteen, Aleksa enrolled at the ballet school “Lujo Davico” and at seventeen he already joins the Terazije Theatre ensemble. He continues to be engaged at this theatre all the way until the 1998. Throughout this period, Aleksa has been extremely active, both at this theatre and as a visiting dancer on other theatres’ stages. He performed in the shows including Some Like it Hot, Cabaret, Once Upon a Time in Belgrade, Ophelia in the Mirror, Triptych and others, which paved his road to Barcelona. During the seven years he spent in Spain, Aleksa performed with the ballet company IT dansa and at the famous Spanish theatre Liceo. His talent and perseverance in that period created opportunities for collaboration with some of the greatest contemporary choreographers. From year to year he has been joining as a permanent member a number of ensembles under the guidance of the greatest modern choreographers, including Nacha Duato, Ramon Oller and Jiry Kilian.

Over the last years of his stay in Spain, Aleksa has been active in preparing his carrier as a singer and dancer. The love he had acquired for musical instruments and creating music actually never ceased. Surrounded by the outstanding Spanish artists, Aleksa drew his enormous inspiration and strength from many performances in the exotic Barcelona and across Spain. During this period, Aleksa focuses on composing his own music and he writes his own songs together with different friends from his hyper-creative environment.

Having gathered sufficient materials, Aleksa Jelic returns to Belgrade in 2006 with the intention to finalise his music expression and turn it into a profession. In collaboration with ultimate musicians from his own family and other professionals from the music production in Serbia, Aleksa enters the recording studio in early spring of 2007. His first album is being produced by a range of top musicians and successful producers. The album will be released by the national label PGP RTS.

Despite his extreme involvement in creating his very first album, Aleksa Jelic remains active as a ballet dancer featuring in numerous performances of the National Theatre.
